2018 Scholarships

The Merchants Association of Columbia County recognized their scholarship recipients during their monthly meeting May 2018 at the Columbia County Fairgrounds. The Merchants Association of Columbia County awarded approximately $15,000 scholarships this year. The Scholarship program began in the 1960’s when the association was first chartered and has consistently grown due to the success of many fund raising events. The Scholarship program is open to all seniors attending High School in Columbia County. This year’s recipients were:

GREENBRIER VOCATIONAL – Christopher Dube
GREENBRIER GOLF - Joseph R. Barksdale Jr.
LAKESIDE VOCATIONAL- Janiah Ryans
LAKESIDE GOLF- Taylor Nichole Luckey
GROVETOWN VOCATIONAL - Charles Tanner
GROVETOWN GOLF- Brandi Tiedeman
HARLEM VOCATIONAL - Jamalier Aponte-Rivera
HARLEM GOLF - Luke Howell Yelton
EVANS GOLF- Sam Knight
AUGUSTA CHRISTIAN- Parker Wingard
AUGUSTA PREP - Carolyn Johnson

The Merchants Association of Columbia County sponsors The Miss Columbia County Fair Pageant, the Martinez-Evans Christmas Parade, The Annual Columbia County Fall Fair and many more community events, which generate additional money to be donated to other community charities.


Mr. A. R. “Ted” Lane pictured here with some of the 2018 Scholarship recipients at our Awards Night. Mr. Lane, who is a Lifetime Director of the Merchant’s Association of Columbia County and a Past President of the Georgia Association of Agricultural Fairs, began the Mrs. Ruby Lane Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament that has of now awarded over $125,000 scholarships to Columbia County Students. This year’s tournament will be held again in April.
